Fårö, an island just north of Gotland in the Baltic Sea. An island off an island, 20 km across, with 500 permanent residents. Packed with tourists during the summer. Empty as a keg of beer after Oktoberfest for the rest of the year.

For surfers in Sweden, Fårö is known for great waves when the conditions are right. Some might even argue that the point outside the lighthouse is the best wave Sweden has to offer, if the waves are big. Two sections turn into one. And because of the island’s location, it is one of Sweden’s more secluded waves. A secluded wave means an empty wave—except for Peter. Peter is always out.

Peter, a Stockholm native, grew up on Fårö during the summers. After being introduced to surfing at a young age in California, he was hooked and brought it back to his summer home. Today, he has left the Swedish capital behind and lives on Fårö year-round. This is a portrait of Peter, his passion for surfing, and his life on Fårö. A unique surfer on a unique island.
